Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex)

Digital sculpting allows me to study and understand the forms, shapes and proportions easier and more thorough.
This sculpture started as a practice but eventually, I pushed it a bit further and decided to give it a proper finish and render.
The software allows me to create and modify the shapes freely - very similar to traditional sculpting. The process forces me to highly simplify the subject and to start with big, primary shapes. Once those important proportions are in place it is easier to break down the bigger shapes into smaller ones and to add more detail.
